First Time in Turkey? Read This Before You Go

🧿 Welcome to Turkey!

If you’re coming to Turkey for the first time – welcome!

This country is full of beautiful places, deep history, and warm people.

But like every country, it has its own way of doing things.

As a local guide, I want to share a few simple tips that can help you have a smoother and better trip.

👚 1. What to Wear (Especially at Mosques)

Turkey is modern, but when visiting mosques, it’s important to dress modestly.

Women should cover their heads, shoulders, and wear long skirts or pants.

Men should avoid shorts.

Tip: Bring a light scarf in your bag – it’ll be useful!

🕓 2. When to Visit Places

Tourist spots like Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, or even Cappadocia valleys get very busy during the day.

Go early in the morning if you want better photos and fewer crowds.

In the evening, relax with a tea by the water – the views are amazing.

💸 3. Do I Need Cash?

Big places and hotels accept credit cards, but small shops, local markets, and some cafes only take cash.

It’s smart to carry some Turkish Lira with you.

🌍 4. Google Things to Do is Great – But Go Deeper With a Local Guide

Yes, you can find many tours on Google Things to Do.

But to really understand Turkey – the stories, the culture, the small hidden places – a local guide makes a big difference.

That’s why I started Eternal Wonder Tours.

We offer private and group tours with personal touches you won’t find on big booking platforms.

☕ 5. Hospitality Matters Here

In Turkey, if someone offers you tea or Turkish coffee, it’s not about business.

It’s just a nice gesture.

Take it, enjoy it, and don’t be shy to chat. That’s how you really connect here.

🧳 Extra Tips You’ll Be Glad You Knew

  • Get a local SIM card if you're staying more than a couple of days.
  • Always carry wet wipes or tissues, just in case.
  • Leave a small tip (5-10%) in restaurants or to your guide – it’s appreciated.
